Wild White Water Rafting (WWW) on Safety and Equipment

Honestly, i am not very confident in water. I was drowned when i was a teen. If not for my husband, i believe i would never be near water once again. One of my goal for myself this year is to “expand” mentally and emotionally. What i meant is i want to conquer my own FEAR. We know fear exists because we allow it. Common humans are terrified of the unknown. Ironically, LIFE itself is an unknown.

So, for the first time i pluck up my courage and organised a white water rafting trip on the 04th Feb 2012. Of course i did extensive research and worked with very reliable white water rafting operator.

Making sure raft devices used are US-Coast-Guard approved and 8-seater urethane white-water SOTAR rafts are used with each raft having one or two experienced river guides.Image

According to the operator, each participant is provided with personal safety equipment (helmet and a PFD -Personal Floatation Device) which are US-Coast-Guard approved. PFDs absorb impact as well as provide flotation.

All participants are required to sign a Liability Release form before starting. Any loose items that cannot be secured, such as jewelry, should be removed for the trip, and they do provide dry bags for miscellaneous small items, such as wallets or car keys.

Safety briefing will be conducted before the start of the activity. The rafting team for the trip explains what to do if the raft flips, how to help each other out of the water and what conditions to expect.

Our raft guides will always give the worst-case scenario so that people know what to expect from the trip and, therefore, have the choice to forego their trip after the safety talk. Once in the raft, you are instructed by your rafting guide as to how to negotiate the rapids and some practice is done before you set off. You are also briefed before each rapid on how the raft is expected to react.

Well, SAFETY is UTMOST important when i organize activities.

Woah, I am already getting excited now as i write this blog.  Counting down to this weekend adventure…. Mind over Matter…. I will MAKE IT through. Have FAITH.
